Must Have MONDAY – Newborn Edition

I’m starting a new series called Must Have MONDAY.  Each week I’ll pick a new category and list my favorite must have items.

Since we are living through the newborn stage for the last time, I thought I’d share  what I’ve used – and loved – with my three little ones.

1. CJ’s Butter – This is hands-down the BEST diaper cream I’ve ever used.  I love the Lavendar and Tea Tree scent for use after every diaper change and the Unscented variety for chapped cheeks, bug bites and scrapes, and even as body lotion.  For really bad rashes, I use the Plus+ version, and it always clears them up quickly!

2. Solly Baby Wrap – This is a lifesaver if you have a baby who likes to be held all the time.  You can be hands free to get chores done around the house or go shopping but snuggle the baby at the same time.

3. Gas Drops – Gassy babies are fussy babies.  Along with massaging their tummies and bicycling their legs, these gas drops are everything.  Trust me.  You want these in your medicine cabinet just in case!

4. Huggies Clutch n Clean – Forget all the other wipes containers.  This one is the best.

5. Wubbanub Pacifier – These are so cute and perfect for little ones to hold on to.

6. Rock n Play Sleeper – I have a super old model but it is one of the best baby items I’ve ever bought.  It helps keep refluxy babies upright, is an easy place for babies to sit while you eat or fold laundry, and folds up to store out of the way.

7. Frame stroller – These are super lightweight and perfect to use while baby is still in the infant car seat.  It clicks in quickly and makes running errands easy!

8. Mamaroo – This is magic.  Pricey but magic!  My kids have never been a fan of swings or bouncer seats, but this is an instant soother.  And, it looks like something out of The Jetsons.

9. Aden + Anais Swaddling Blankets – These are the best baby blankets.  They are lightweight and perfect for swaddling, using as a cover while nursing, and laying down to change diapers on.  And, I may or may not use them when I’m sitting on the couch.  They are so comfy!!

These are some of my must haves to survive the newborn season.  What are yours?

What’s Up Wednesday

Hello, blog world. It’s been a while…like a year.

Since I blogged last, I took on a second job working part time at our church with our Children’s Ministry. I definitely underestimated how hard of an adjustment it would be to start a new job with a 2 month old. Once school started back in the fall, I was working 6 days a week, plus meetings and other work obligations/responsibilities.

Then, in December, we found out that we are expecting another baby. So on top of everything else, I was now dealing with morning sickness and general exhaustion. Growing a baby is hard work!

I still don’t feel like I’ve gotten my feet back under me yet. It’s been a year of adjustments, and in 2 months, we’ll be adding another baby to the family.

I am cutting back on work though and will only be teaching 3 days a week in the fall. I am very excited for the change and the flexibility it will offer me and the kids. And, who knows, maybe I’ll even find the time to keep up with this blog 🙂

For today’s post, I’m joining a series titled What’s Up Wednesday.

What we’re eating this week…

Thia week has been crazy.  2 End Of The Year Programs, 1 birthday party, and Zach’s birthday dinner.  I made it through this week without having to make dinner 🙂

What I’m reminiscing about…

Our Disney Vacation we took a 1.5 years ago is definitely on my mind.  We are planning to go back next fall, and I. Can’t. Wait!

What I’m loving…

I am so excited that summer break is 2 days away!  I love not being on a schedule!

What we’ve been up to…

We are looking for a van since I won’t be able to fit all 3 babies in my Equinox.  I’m sad to give up my sporty little SUV, but very excited about power sliding doors 🙂

What I’m dreading…

We are seriously thinking about listing our house and building in North Carolina.  Despite having an awesome agent, I’m dreading the selling process!

What I’m working on…

I have been so busy this week finishing up End of the Year assessments and portfolios for my little ones at school.

What I’m excited about…

Summer break!

What I’m watching/reading…

Currently, I am reading Hope Unfolding.

This month, I’ve also read Me Before You and The Royal We.

What I’m listening to…

Right now, there is an NBA Playoff game on the tv.

What I’m wearing…

After the last 2 days – which have been hot – this mama needs to find some maternity shorts and fast!

What I’m doing this weekend…

Hopefully nothing 🙂

What I’m looking forward to next month…

I’m looking forward to VBS being in the rear view so I can fully focus on getting ready for baby #4.

What else is new…

Elsie is almost a walker….she can do it, but she just doesn’t want to.  Come on, baby girl!!

Be a Warrior

Does this speak to anyone else today?

This is an area of my spiritual walk that I am continually working on.  I’ve been a worrier all my life.  Honestly, I don’t remember a time where worry hasn’t been a major theme.

I’m slowly learning that worrying doesn’t produce results.  But, it does rob me of time and joy.  I wonder how many times God shakes his head at how long I hold on to something before I trust Him to take care of it.   If I’m being honest, it happens more often than I’d like to admit.

So today I’m choosing to be a warrior.  Help encourage me to be one tomorrow, too.

New Blog, New Content

I’ve thought a lot about what I want this new blog to be.  My last blog was very ‘grief heavy’.  I didn’t mean for it to be, but it just naturally happened.  Grief and loss were major themes in my life.  They seasoned every aspect of my life.  But I’m coming into a new place.

The loss will always be there.  It will be there when I have grandkids of my own because I will never hold Hannah’s children, and I’m confident that thought will briefly shadow my heart as I hold my first grandchild.

So, this new blog will be more lifestyle, but I’ll always keep it real.  Some days will suck and the milestones/anniversaries/holidays will always be hard.

This is a blog about life and living with one less.

New Beginnings

I need a fresh start.

Someplace not as confining.  Like when you start a new journal because the one you were writing in just doesn’t feel right anymore.  Does anyone else do that?

It’s not that I’m done grieving.  I’m not sure you ever are.  I’m just in a new place.  And that place needs a new blog.

So here’s to fresh starts and new beginnings.
